This is a list of fictional businesses and locations used in the game - places that are owned by characters, and places where characters work. Because we've accumulated a lot of NYU students and faculty, as well as employees of numerous government departments, separate sections have been included for those as well. If you'd like to add to the list, please use the form below! Special thanks go to the wonderful Tess for not only suggesting this, but also compiling a ton of information. Clubs, Restaurants, Cafés, Lounges & Bars Club Shanti Location: La Guardia Plc, between W. 3rd and Bleecker (NYU/Greenwich Village). Owner: Unknown. Co-owner: Kala Jnana/"DJ Kala" [Kali], Employees: Uma, NPC. Other misc. NPCs. Description: Club Shanti has an expansive ground floor and three unique terraced levels above it: the ground floor is where the bar is nearly circular, the bar being in the center and also circular. A small platform on which DJ Kala works is above the dance floor. Across the room, stairs led up to the second floor: a crescent shaped balcony that overlooks the dance floor, bar, and DJ. Tables for groups to rest at, as well as some shelves to place their belongings in, are on this level. A shimmering onyx spiral staircase leads up to the third terrace, another dance floor, elevated and on an entirely different plane than the dance floor below. This level has an entirely different music playing, its own bar, and with cushions and ground-level tables placed carefully along the wall and along the railing. Sometimes there are dancers up here who work in the middle of the space, or, more often than not, it is reserved for private parties. Opposite these two terraces: a wide screen that lines the wall and stops just behind the DJ's platform. Sometimes there are screenings of Asian and Indian films, and sometimes DJ Kala plays excerpts of Bollywood movies or other imagery for special music events. Decadence Owner: Paine Stanford [Fetish], Employees: Elle [Rave], Description: Decadence is a BDSM club in Manhattan. It is large, comfortable and accommodating, with a bar, a dance floor and two small stages. The club has a dais overlooking the dance floor wherein tables and chairs rest for those who need a moment and a drink. For the most part the furnishing consists of microfibre couches and loveseats in black and deep red. La Fée Verte Location: Manhattan Owner: Absynia Granth [Absinthe], Employees: Alicia Green (NPC), Description: La Fée Verte has two faces. The building is an old one, and when entered one can think they have run into an absinthe museum. The store is filled with every kind of absinthe one can imagine, and has every sort of accessory one might be willing to purchase. The store is always rather dark, giving it a gloomy air. Alicia is always almost found at the front desk, answering questions where needed. To those in the 'know' and those asking the right questions, the second face is revealed. Behind the store, separated by what appears to be a fire exit, lies Absinthe's cafe. This cafe is made to appear exactly like the Parisian cafes of the 1800s. Couches and tables are strewn around the floor, giving everyone a comfortable environment. An old fireplace is always burning to provide warmth. This is where Absinthe is usually found, often sharing a drink with her followers, and whispering inspirations in their ear. Upon entering, one is asked to leave behind all cellphones and any other mechanical devices. Masque Owner: Hana "Hannah" Sato, Employees: Joey Ritchie [Punk], Description: Offering a fabulously eclectic, and lush, menu to a well-heeled clientèle, Masque is a foodie-snob's paradise. Masque is a two-story jewel box, subtle and glowing. The leaded windows have sills overflowing with potted blossoms, looking out onto a street that seemed as much Paris as New York. Masque’s upper floor, despite sharing much of its predecessor’s charm and shape, has a distinctively separate atmosphere. Here, the windows are artificially frosted in some panes and fantastically clear in others. Downstairs, potted blossoms create a lush, friendly jungle; upstairs, the flowers are set in more delicate arrangements. The deluxe soundproofing helps further divide the beautiful room from the deficient world outside. Masque's most famous ornamentation, though, is its murals. People often say they're like something out of a dream... Sample Menus: [1] [2] The Steel Mill Owner: Unknown Employees: Bartender: Harper Dean [Heavy Metal], Description: A bar well known for cheap drinks, a rough atmosphere, and drawing a lot of unsigned metal talent to play on it's stage. It's a favorite hang out of a New York biker gang and the décor - if it can be called as such - is rather trashy and sleazy, with peeling paint and faded old band posters that have been in place for years. Uncommon Ground Location: Greenwich, near West Village Owner: Unknown Employees: Waiter: Sebastian Desant [Saint Sebastian], Live Music - Set Yourself Apart: Sebastian and NPCs; Dead Like Diaries: Evan Rose [Emo], Description: A corner coffee house and café with a large front room open during the day and a back room open at night and available for live music. Owned by an Italian man and run by him and his three daughters plus other waitstaff. Upstairs/Downstairs Location: Alphabet City, Lower East Side Owner: Co-owner unknown; Co-owner Khana Lahiri [Krishna], Employees: Khana Lahiri [Krishna], Description: In an attempt to bring a touch of the bohemian lifestyle back to Alphabet City, Upstairs/Downstairs is the first floor and basement of a high-rise apartment building, renovated for commercial use. The Upstairs portion is a traditional coffee house. There is no wifi here, just the ability to connect face to face over a steaming mug of coffee. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Local artists' works hang over the golden yellow-painted walls. The mismatched tables and overstuffed chairs welcome people to sit for hours and escape the busy streets of New York. There is a small outside seating area for people who'd like to smoke. Downstairs is a true extension of its above ground counterpart. Descend a small flight of stairs, and one will find books upon books sprawling across the walls. The same sort of mismatched furniture and warmth permeates the establishment, as customers are invited to sit and peruse the books before purchase. The area behind the front desk, where the shopkeeper Khana Lahiri can usually be found, is covered with eastern tapestries and vintage concert posters. Lahiri is practically a fixture within the store himself. He is always there with a soft smile and a kind gesture. He spends most of his time attempting to acquire rare and used books for his customers. When he is not doing that, he can be seen with a chai tea from Upstairs, curled into a chair and discussing philosophy. Galleries, Stores & Other Bouton Noir Location: Manhattan, a few blocks from Central Park. Owner: Donnatella Divale [Belladonna], Employees: Donnatella Divale [Belladonna], Description: A New Age store selling herbal remedies, herbal teas, incense and "all natural" cosmetics alongside charms, wicca supplies, books on witchcraft and some obligatory occult-y jewellery. The majority of products contain some quantity of belladonna - belladonna teas are a specialty, and the belladonna facial moisturiser has become a favourite among young women - and many contain Bella's sister-plants, mandrake, henbane, datura and salvia. In the back room, for those who know what to ask for, are a variety of poisons. Déjà Vu Location: Downtown Manhattan Owners: Matilda, Lena and Chloe Moira [the Moirae], Description: A thrift store in Downtown Manhattan; a shop filled with fragments of others' lives, some of it junk, some of it surprisingly valuable. While you won't always find what you're looking for in the Fates' shop, it's not at all uncommon to find just what you need. The girls also own the apartment above the shop, where they live and tend to their Loom. Freak's Show Location: Lower East Side Owner: Drey Dhio [Phrike], Employees: I'm sure she has some, but they are as yet unnamed. Description: A Gothic Boutique. The front part carries generic, stereotypical "goth" and "new age" items. Half of the back houses more exclusive, expensive items of clothing, art etc. that those in the community would genuinely be interested in. The other half of the back is God access only, housing weaponry, spells and other such powerful items. The Highway Location: Manhattan, twenty blocks away from Central Park. Owner: Umm, technically? Dave Henderson. Operated by Marc Jones [Marijuana], Employees: Dave Henderson - second-in-command, acting-first-in-command whenever Marijuana is away/dead. Mans the counter, fields and organizes/attends most of the runs, makes employee schedules, fields mortal and immortal emergencies and, basically, puts up with Marijuana's shit, cleans up his messes and tries not to indulge in his hard drug of choice too much. (Official NPC PBed by Chris, 'Raab Himself' Raab.) Cam Harper - third-in-command, bumped up to second when either Marijuana or Dave isn't working. Mans the counter. Drug runner, Highway medic, accountant, architect, designer of skate ramps, master hacker, technician and mechanic. (Official NPC, PBed by Brandon 'Dico' DiCamillo.) Wes Burton - Marijuana's bodyguard (more like shadow, he'd never leave Marijuana's side if he had his choice), Dave's when he's in command. Mans the counter, organizes his task force of guards for the runs and for shop/apartment building security. He also... retrieves information from unwilling subjects, handles anyone who needs to be silenced and cleans up the messes from those activities and when drug runs go bad. (Unofficial NPC, PBed by Ryan Dunn.) Matt Reilly - Highway bike. 'All-purpose' employee; mans the counter, goes on runs, weighs out the drugs, holds Cam's flashlight and generally makes himself useful... when he's not being utterly annoying. (Unofficial NPC, PBed by Brandon Novak.) Description: Very crudely drawn floor plan, made with rather limited Paint 'skills': Basement. First floor; shop front. Second floor; Marijuana's apartment, shared (kind of) with Heroin. That is a very... rough outline at best. Classic rock posters cover the walls of the first floor and Cam's sound system has speakers set up all over the building and the roof. There are four safes in the walls of the first floor, mostly behind Floyd posters, and one under the counter. Marijuana also owns the coffee shop next door, which sits empty currently. There is quite a large parking lot out back, containing four used cars, one used van and quite a bit of lumber and building supplies. The roof contains several small gardens; one filled with solely marijuana plants, one filled with marijuana plants and poppies and one with a mess of wild flowers; mainly light blue, purple, and white. Winding paths trace in between the gardens and lead to the gazebo at the center. In one corner, there is a hot tub and the roof is only accessible through the fire escape out of the bedroom Marijuana is (kind of) sharing with Heroin. He also rents out the fourth floor of the apartment building across the street, which houses his inner circle. A description can be found in this tag for the insanely curious. The Hollow Tree Owner: Natasha Lakeland [Nimue], Employees: None so far - open to new staff. Description: A New Age store, selling incense, books on Wicca, little statues of goddesses, scarves, clothes from India, jewelry with moons on it, etc. At the back is another room, where Nimue tells fortunes. Midway Plaisance Owner: Archibald Lockhart [Carnival], Employees: Stan Bates (NPC), Dorian Feenix, Maarten Mander, The Madams Zelda & Zorina, Jofranka Westwick, Anastasya Pavlovich, Toby Sloan, Jack, Description: See here. The Room Owner: Colden Delaney [Horror], Employees: Corvina Delaney, Description: The Room is a movie theatre/café/museum. The Room has two theatre rooms, both the size of ones found in a regular theatre. These are used to show horror movies all the time, a mix of new and old. Viewings are only held at night, or late enough in the afternoon that when movie-goers leave, it is dark outside. Movies change weekly if not daily and run until just before dawn. In addition, there is a smaller, more private theatre for a select few. Here, Horror shows his favourite movies, and sometimes it's Corvina's picks on view. The room is furnished with larger chairs and small loveseats, spaced out farther than in the other rooms. Café food is available in here. Only Horror and Corvina may allow guests in here. The café is open at all times. It has a selection of drinks and desserts, some of which include strange or obscure ingredients. Books are available in the café, some old, some stained, and in many different languages. The museum is really a collection of objects that fill the empty spaces in the café, theatres, and all other rooms. Film posters, statues, books, memorabilia, weaponry, dolls, toys, art, clothes, glass and silverware, animals, insects, furniture, pictures and jewelry are some of the items Horror keeps on display. At the front door, all guests are required to sign a paper stating that they are fully aware that management is not responsible for allergic reactions to any food or drink, any accidents, medical emergencies, attacks, loss of life or possessions, or anything else of that nature. Returning guests can request a membership card. Watchtower Records Owner: Classic [Classic Rock], Employees: A few NPCs; Sorcha Niall, Description: Watchtower Records, a hole in the wall store with a vast and seemingly endless collection of both compact discs and `vintage` records, and an impossibly large collection of records that by all outside accounts had been lost. Speakers are placed at the corners of the ceiling and throughout the store, as well as listening stations throughout the aisles. Fading posters line the walls above the shelves, decorating nearly every inch of free space. These include old ads for concerts, particular bands and artists, and posters from specific albums. The store is composed of three levels, one one being Classic's basement flat, one as the main floor of the store, and one half a loft where unique, hard-to-find records are stored and accessible by employees only: there is a door at the back of this loft area to a small employee's lounge, including a couch, microwave, sink, small table and restroom. When one enters, they see a glass counter/display case on the right, weathered cherry hardwood floors, endless shelves of records and tapes on the walls, about thirteen aisles of compact discs, records, and tapes, and a glimpse of a small alcove at the end of the counter with shag carpet and some chairs. Within the display case, Classic sells various unique collectibles, guitar picks, and a small collection of pipes. Behind the counter is a long cabinet where Classic stores some of his own music collection to play within the store, a small shelf display of incense, collectible guitars and basses from the 1960's and 1970's hooked onto the wall, and the sound system for the store is tucked away beneath the counter itself. The counter runs most of the length of one of these walls, stopping and opening up into an alcove with bookshelves, several chairs, a rug, and a few ash trays, where Classic, his staff, friends and customers could chill out and read about the history of the music they were purchasing or listening to. Light is dim, yet fed by a stream of natural light cascading from the skylight at the center of the high vaulted ceiling. Lennon & Harding Location: A couple of floors of the One Chase Manhattan Plaza building, in the Manhattan Financial District. Owner: W.R.I. Townshend-Lennon [Litigation], Employees: Matthew Forsythe [Forseti], Description: A New York-based law firm founded about 7 years back by W.R.I. Townshend-Lennon and Susanne Harding. It is regarded as one of the top firms for litigation. Though dealing mainly with corporate clients and business, the firm does take on actions by individuals - either against corporations, or other individuals. Matthew Forsythe, for instance, has recently started accepting a few criminal defense briefs. The 'unofficial' motto within the firm is: "If it's litigation, we'll do it." It covers a few floors in the building, with the uppermost floor housing the reception - which has large glass windows offering a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline. The senior partners also have their offices on this floor, and there is a dining/entertainment room solely for their own private use. This floor is also where the client meeting rooms are situated. The next floor houses the partners' offices, and the firm library. There are also some smaller rooms for meeting and/or conference purposes, and a room set aside for the partners' private use. The lower floor has the rest of the offices (administrative and legal), and a dining area for the rest of the employees. There is also a small gym/entertainment area. Happy employees are productive ones, after all. Purism Location: Lower Manhattan, NYC. Owner: Unknown. Employees: Melas Eoh [Famine], Description: Foodstuff engineering company.
