Heroin would desperately like Opium, Morphine, Cocaine and Grunge Rock. Hera would be over the moon to have Hebe and Eileithyia. Media would like Commercials, particularly if they have some kind of family connection?

Adding to the American Folklore list...

Rosie the Riveter
The New Jersey Devil
Pocahontas
Lady Liberty (?)
John Henry
Wild Bill Hickok
Paul Revere
Typhoid Mary
Bigfoot
Uncle Remus Folklore (Br'er Rabbit, etc)

Anyone who plays any of these would be crazy awesome, that's all I'm saying :D

zomg Typhoid Mary. And just when I've started doing this subject on Irish immigrants (well, the Irish in Australia, BUT STILL). Dammit, I do not need more characters right now! *fail*

Davyyyy... Davy Crocket! King of the wild frontier!

Oh man. When I was little I had a tape with all these American folk stories on it, and songs, and "Pecos Bill Ropes The Whirlwind" was on there, and oh. Amaaazing. I listened to it all the time.

It might have been from Radio Aahs, actually, which was my favorite thing ever. This game really brings me back to my roots, every time. <3

I would love to see a few more mortals in the game, specicially, law enforcement type people! The drug gods need DEA agents to flail at and Heroin needs his DEA ex-boyfriend.

Also? New Gods of the Music Industry and some musical genres? Heavy Metal, Punk, Rap, Jazz, Disco, Pop? And only sort of new, but... Serial Killers? Followed by Forensic Science?

Criminals for Folklore...
[info]allamericanboy
2009-04-02 09:07 am UTC (link)
Lizzie Borden (not a serial killer, but she has her own song and has become a New England legend! Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother forty whacks, when she realised what she'd done, she gave her father forty one...)

Zodiac Killer (Player could have some freedom with this one, because he was never caught! But he's a nationally known figure because of it, and has two major movies about him... including the first Dirty Harry movie "do you feel lucky, punk? do ya?")

Son of Sam (okay, this one might be too recent? Not sure, but again... he's legendary.)

Butch Cassidy

Pretty Boy Floyd (MOBSTERS, GUYZ!)

Al Capone aka. Scarface ("One of the most notorious American gangsters of the 20th century, Capone has been the subject of numerous articles, books, and films. Capone's personality and character have been used in fiction as a model for crime lords and criminal masterminds ever since his death." No, srsly. The depression had an amazing crop of legendary criminals. Use them.)

John Dillinger (the Jesse James of the 1930s. Bonus points for using Johnny Depp as a PB :D)

Blackbeard the Pirate! (maybe had a power serge during the PotC craze the country went through?)

And in the not criminal department, people should look through the Revolutionary War, because let's face it? There is so much crazy folklore there. A lot is regional, but it's there! Examples???

Tempe Wick (Tristate area... NY, NJ, and Connecticut)
George Washington (how much have we blown him out of proportion? There was no cherry tree and that picture of the Deleware is totes ridic :-/)
The Shot Heard 'Round the World (because that's just hilarious to me >.>)

...and I'll shut up now >.>

Once more, I come bearing requests! This time, for the Norse contingent.

Jörmungandr (could we bold him, maybe? Hel really misses her brother)
Níðhöggr / Nidhogg
Ratatoskr
The eagle on top of the Yggdrasil, he's not actually named in the Eddas, but, well, he sends snarky comments to the Nidhogg via a squirrel, that has to be worth something.
Angrboða (Hel would like her mother, please).

I have made it my mission to propose some African gods, because, you know, why not? :) So here are some I think would be interesting to have around:

- Isamba, a moon goddess associated with Artemis/Diana and Isis, who had a contest of wisdom with her husband the sun (though it's never said who won...)
- Obatala, the god who was supposed to create the world, but got too drunk to do it, so he was given the task of making humans instead. Seriously. <3
- Mawu-Lisa, a hermaphroditic creator deity who made the world in four days -- consists of the female part Mawu (night/the moon) and the male part Lisa (day/sun).
- Gu (also called Ogou, Ogon, etc. - he's an African god who was transplanted into the Vodou religion, so he could fit in either or both pantheons), god of war, politics, fire, etc. In Dahomey mythology, he's a craftsman god who worked on the earth to make it all perfect, but being a slow worker and a bit of a perfectionist, he didn't finish in time for the creation of humans and he's still working on it today (I love this idea a lot. Can you just see a smith god puttering around fixing things up and muttering to himself about deadlines? I totally can. <3).
- Tsetse, Boshongo goddess of lightning and fire. She just seems really cool.

Can we bold Anansi, as well? I can't believe nobody's snatched him up, considering that he's so well-known and also he's a lot of fun. Iktomi would love another spider trickster around! :)

Thank you!

Hermes possibly since Hecate read that she was apparently involved with him and doesn't remember that, the amusement factor there is pretty high.

Fetish would love to see moar! subcultures.

I, uh, kind of love the idea of Health Care and Global Warming. XD But in light of what Jess has said previously re: spheres of influence and breaking down New Gods into smaller components, would it make sense to bring in New Gods for the various military branches? That seems like it's cutting things down into fairly small, specific chunks when they're technically already covered by National Security (and now the U.S. Military, if the cast page is any indication).

Obviously it falls on Jess to decide, but I wanted to throw my $.02 in. :)

Yeah, now that we have the military, I think the smaller components are unnecessary! I just had them all separated, 'cause they all tend to get touchy when you mesh them together in general (ie, never call an Air Force guy a Navy guy). But US Military takes care of all that!

Mmyes.

In my mental canon, there were a small group of them - Nihilism, Dadaism, Post-Modernism (the child of Nils and Dada - both of whom are male lol), Avant-Garde, Cabaret and Absinthe who all lived together or in the same building in Moscow in the mid-to-late 1800's and into the early 1900's and they were kind of one big incestuous fucked up weird family.

I know they're both up there, but I wanted to second the call for these two:

Leto - Mummy! One-time consort of Zeus, with whom she conceived Artemis and Apollo. Artemis is fiercely devoted to her.
Kallisto - One-time hunting companion of Artemis; she broke her vow of chastity by sleeping with Zeus (who was disguised as Artemis at the time). When Artemis learned of Kallisto's pregnancy, she turned the poor girl into a bear and killed her. AWKWARD TIMES FOR ALL. XD

Because I'm a total nerd - some Australian Aboriginal deities that would be awesome:

Bobbi-Bobbi - Benevolent snake god, creator of the boomerang.
The Bunyip - A beast that was believed to haunt swamps and billabongs. It originated as an Aboriginal myth, though white men were reporting bunyip sightings right up to the end of the 19th century.
Crow (Wahn, Bellin-Bellin) - A trickster deity, somewhat similar to the Native American Raven.
Gnowee - A solar goddess, forever in search of her missing son. The sun is the torch which she carries on her journeys.
The Rainbow Snake - Creator/fertility deity present in the mythology of many different Aboriginal nations.
Taipan - A snake-deity and primordial shaman, responsible for giving blood to mankind and holding power over the biological processes.
Tiddalik - OMG TIDDALIK. I loved this story as a kid. Basically he's a greedy old asshole of a frog who drank all the water in the land, causing a devastating drought. All the animals conspire to make him release all the water by making him laugh, and eventually they succeed - Tiddalik laughs, and the waters rush out of him in a massive flood. Fun times!

Yes, I know, I need to stop thinking about these things. But having mentioned Australian Aboriginal mythology, it occurred to me that Anglo-Australian folklore characters would be great to see around, too!

Ned Kelly - An iconic Australian bushranger (outlaw), known for his daring and best-recognised by his trademark armour. He was a crook, a thief and a murderer, but for some reason we Aussies revere him as some kind of Robin Hood figure. Fun fact: One of my ancestors was a copper who chased the Kelly Gang on horseback!

Other bushrangers (we like our criminals) - Captain Starlight (Harry Readford), Captain Thunderbolt, Bold Jack Donahue (the inspiration for The Wild Colonial Boy), Ben Hall, the Gentleman Bushranger, Captain Moonlite, Musquito.

Clancy of the Overflow - From the Banjo Paterson poem of the same title, Clancy is the classic, heavily romanticised image of the carefree Australian drover. Clancy was actually inspired by a real person, Thomas Gerald Clancy who, upon reading the poem, penned the far less romantic Clancy's Reply.
